The Key To Looking Slimmer
Let’s face it, the tummy probably wasn’t the favourite body part for us mums pre-baby let alone now, in fact I would hazard a guess and say that it’s the most disliked.
As such we try to disguise it by wearing our tops loosely, in the hope that it flows over and avoids drawing any attention to it. “Great, that’s done it”, we say. Yet we look in the mirror before heading out, and still don’t like who’s looking back at us. Instead of feeling good about ourselves, we have the same deflated feeling again, and that we have no real style and confidence.
So Why Is That?
When wearing things loosely, instead of hiding your middle, (which is what most women think it’d achieve) what it’s actually doing is taking away all definition and shape from your body, which naturally adds further weight to your look. Exactly the reason why some of my clients say they feel like a ‘sack of spuds’.
So let’s get into how we really can disguise your tummy and quickly get you feeling better about yourself and elevate your style…
The Trick to Really Hiding Your Tummy
As terrifying as it sounds, the trick is to tuck in your tops. Now just stay with me on this, and hear me out.
Quite the contrary to making your middle more prominent, a tuck will actually slim you down by creating more balance and defining your curves. But don’t panic, only tuck as much as you feel comfortable; even the subtlest of tucks will create a big impact and positive transformation.
And as well as slimming your middle, a tuck helps to elongate your legs making them seem longer too. Taller and slimmer, what a double WIN. Who wouldn’t want that?!
To demonstrate, see below my 3 looks, each comparing a top worn loose with a simple tuck.
Look 1 - The Relaxed Loose Tuck
For the first comparison I’ve popped on a relaxed cardigan with my jeans.
On the left, you’ll see I’ve let the cardigan just hang loosely down.
In the right image, I have done a loose, one-sided tuck. My middle doesn’t feel trapped and tight with this tuck, I am still very comfortably relaxed.
As I’m sure you’ll notice, this simple tuck has made a significant difference to my look. I have added so much more shape to my body, style to my outfit and length to my legs, all by loosely emphasising my waist.
Look 2 - Full Tuck
Now in this comparison on the right, I’ve been a bit more daring. The image on the left is again me just putting on a jumper without any styling.
On the right this time I put more emphasis on my middle by tucking my jumper fully into my trousers, however it’s still not tight. I still have lots of movement and haven’t drawn any unwanted attention to my tummy.
Again you’ll notice a big transformation in my style and appearance.
And as I mention before, if you don’t feel confident to do this just yet, that’s absolutely fine. Just do as much as you feel comfortable doing and stick with the relaxed tuck. Or if you’re looking for something less obvious again, why not give the next look a go.
Look 3 - Asymmetric Side Tuck
Again you can see I have made a positive improvement to my style, this time with just the littlest of tucks to one side.
The jumper falls gently down asymmetrically, and as such still covers a lot of my middle. So if you have any insecurities then this will keep them nicely covered.
As you can see I have again created more of a shape to my body, and elongated my legs with more of my legs in view.
So next time you feel you want to hide your tummy, instead of letting your tops hang loose, add the smallest of tucks. This subtle change will have you feeling far more positive when you look in the mirror as opposed to ‘a sack of spuds’ like I get told regularly.
It will also give you a better sense of “STYLE” giving you a little buzz and boost of confidence to your day.
